My work supports projects undertaken by Melanie and Dan as well as some support of students. I use a variety of techniques including morphotyping, extraction and amplification of fungal DNA from mycorrhizas in preparation for sequencing, field installations, and enzyme assays of ectomycorrhizal root tips. I am currently doing community analysis of ectomycorrhizas for two projects: (i) examining the influence of retention of coarse woody debris on high-elevation clearcuts and (ii) determining how retention of clumps of trees during harvesting influences ECM communities at different distances from the green tree islands.
